(RALEIGH, NC February 28, 2008) – A groundbreaking was recently held for a new school at The Villages of Apex. Thales Academy, a private elementary school for children ages K-5, is currently under construction in the community. The school, which is scheduled to open for students in the fall, is located at the southeast corner of the Guy Lee Building Supply at 900 North Salem Street in Apex .
“We are very excited about opening our second Wake County school at The Villages of Apex”, said Kent Misegades, Board Chairman of Thales Academy in Apex “Initially the school will open for 200 K-5 students and will expand to K-8 in the coming years. We are very appreciative that the land for the school was donated by Apex First Development, the builder/developer of The Villages of Apex”.
Apex First Development is developing The Villages of Apex neighborhoods on a 200+ acre tract of land between downtown Apex and US Highway 64 west.

Thales Academy is an affordable private community school founded by Raleigh businessman and philanthropist Robert Luddy. Mr. Luddy opened the nationally-recognized Franklin Academy in North Raleigh in 2007 and plans to open a third school campus in Wake Forest in the near future. The Villages of Apex, a world-class, mixed-use community under construction in historic downtown Apex, is being designed by Apex First Development with the same look and feel as the Apex historic district.
