New Cultural Arts Center Named for Generous Donors

Donation Made to Town of Apex by

 The Villages of Apex Developers

(RALEIGH, NC. February 13, 2008) —A generous donation to the Town of Apex by Warren and Martha Halle and Mike and Wendy Howington is the inspiration behind the naming of the new Halle Cultural Arts Center. Warren Halle and Mike Howington co-own Apex First Development, the company selected by the Town of Apex to develop The Villages of Apex, a mixed-use community in the heart of Apex.

The Halle Cultural Arts Center of Apex opened to the public on Friday, January 11. Originally constructed in 1911 for approximately $7,000, the building, which is located in the heart of the downtown Apex historic district, has been fully restored, renovated and expanded. The Center houses studios, classrooms, galleries and a 135-seat theatre, all devoted to the Apex arts community.

“I am honored to have my family’s name associated with this wonderful cultural arts center located in the heart of the town’s historic district”, said Warren Halle. “We are pleased to be a part of such an important, integral part of Apex history.” Formerly Apex Town Hall, the property is listed on the National Historic Property Registry and is located at 237 North Salem Street

Apex First Development co-owner and Halle Cultural Arts Center co-founder Mike Howington is pleased with the center. “I am extremely proud to be part of such a wonderful facility that will showcase the talents of local artists.” The Center’s auditorium and theatre are named after the Howington family

“This is a very exciting time for the town of Apex and for all people in our community,” said Apex Mayor Keith Weatherly. “The Arts Center displays and exhibits are open, and several events, including a wedding reception, have already been booked. We had a great turnout on opening day and there is a lot of excitement and buzz in the community. And this is just the beginning.”

Apex Town Manager Bruce Radford has worked closely with Apex First Development to ensure that the community is the perfect fit for the town. “The Villages of Apex will enhance and expand the small town charm of historic Apex,” said Radford. ”The community is destined to become a showplace for the Triangle and a great source of pride for the residents of Apex.”
